Following a series of strong tornadoes that broke across the area on Friday, May 10, 2024, the city of Tallahassee is in shock. A trail of destruction was left by the storms, including severely damaged homes and businesses, downed power lines, and, sadly, the loss of at least one person.

At least four tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down by the National Weather Service, and their size and intensity were indicated by radar signatures. Emergency personnel went to the scene to assess the damage and help those affected. Pictures that are making the rounds on the internet show a terrible scene: broken roofs, fallen trees, and debris all over once-familiar streets.

There are currently over 200,000 people without power in the South, with Tallahassee seeing some of the worst delays. While the city is working nonstop to clear debris and restore power, officials warn that it may take days or even weeks for some regions to recover completely.

The people of Tallahassee are proving to be strong in the face of terrible destruction. In an effort to support their neighbors, locals are coming together to provide food, shelter, and assistance with cleanup. Businesses in the area are stepping forward to help people in need by donating supplies.

The people of Tallahassee are strong, even if the road to recovery will be a long one. The city has a track record of winning against hardship, and this time is no exception. Residents can use the following resources during this trying time:
